In early May, we left for our annual trip to Panama City Beach for RUF Summer Conference. This is one of our favorite parts of Curtis' job - we get to go to the beach for a week once a year. This Florida girl LOVES it -- especially when it means I will see my family (more in next post)! One of the unique parts of this trip was that we had the opportunity to take a slight detour to Franklin, TN to see Mrs. Warren, one of my best friends and mentor. I hadn't seen her in 4 years since she and her husband are now missionaries in Kiev, Ukraine.
It was such a special treat and we were delighted to spend time with them and hear all about Ukraine and their plans!
Ironically, we found that we both had Kate Spade polka-dotted eyeglasses. Apparently, we have the same taste! We felt like we had to take a picture to document this, how funny!
Anna and Kate were excited to see the Warrens, but also because they got to share their favorite ice cream from Chick-Fil-A! :)
We took a few pictures to document...
...the time flew by, but we will cherish the moments we had with them!
As soon as we got to Panama City Beach, the girls were ready to check out the beach. We spent every day there.
However, you'll notice that Kate is never in the sand.
Yes, always being held or sitting on a towel. She doesn't like sand! Thankfully, our sweet Purdue students (like Christine) were happy to help!
We had lots of family fun...
This was the best family picture we could get. Our girls don't like to look at the camera for pictures!
Anna rarely naps, but she did! It was pretty shocking to come in and not only to see her sleeping but in our bed!
One day of the week each year, all the RUF wives go to lunch together. I look forward to it every time and this year didn't disappoint! I also got to spend time with several of these ladies after my girls went to bed each night.
The RUF children also bond during the worship time before their bedtimes. It was really precious to see them all getting along so well! It makes my heart so happy!
Another very special visit happened in the middle of our time at SuCo! My older brother and his beautiful family were traveling back to their home in Texas after visiting our parents in Jacksonville. The girls and I saw them as their breakfast stop. It was the first time that we were able to meet my youngest niece, Jemima. She is precious! And to think, by the next time I see them, they will have another baby girl. :)
It is quite a rare occasion for Anna and Kate to see their only cousins! We are so glad that it all worked out for us to see them!
And then we went back to the beach!
Jessica was so excited to hold Kate.
Kate was excited every time she saw Van. She loved the attention that Van would give her. She even tested her limits with sand. I'm really hoping she will like the sand next year!
One night, we go out to dinner with our group from Purdue. Every year that I have gone to SuCo, I have been able to spend special time with Holly, an RUF at FSU grad. We later found out that our moms have known each other for a while and are very good friends so it's been a nice tradition to see her each year!
I can't end this post without mentioning that Anna and Kate loved where we were staying! We were in a courtyard right next to lots of "little friends." They got to spend time with RUF friends and play with their toys. There were times that they preferred to stay in the courtyard instead of going to the beach or the pool. This year has been the best one yet for our family!
