We left Panama City and traveled to Savannah!
We tried to get some energy out by stopping at another Chick-Fil-A for lunch.
We arrived in Savannah and had a quick dinner at Panera. Anna requested a picture at this random nook in their bathroom! Haha!
We stayed with some of our dear friends, but sadly we never took any pictures with them! Anna was especially excited about this Finding Dory toddler bed that they had. I think Kate would have preferred to sleep there too, but we're not quite ready for that yet.
The next day, we attended our old church, Grace Church of the Islands Presbyterian. It was really nice to see so many people from our church family and also to see lots of new faces that we didn't recognize! Curtis shared about our ministry at Purdue during the Sunday School hour. The girls were excited to climb on the podium when it was all over.
I also was able to spend some time with my closest Savannah friend, Rachel. It was quite special because she took time away on Mother's Day to see me! It's remarkable to see how much her beautiful daughter has grown and she enjoyed playing with our daughters too!
The Arpins (the family we were staying with) kindly invited us to their Mother's Day family dinner. We had a great last night with them before we headed to our next location!
Final stop of our trip: Gatlinburg!!
I took this picture right near the townhouse where we stayed.
Grandad bonded with Anna as they blew bubbles off the patio.
The girls were pretty excited about our large tub!
Grandma just loved every moment she had with us! She was quick to step in and help us with the bedtime routine.
She and Grandad even watched our girls while we listened to a timeshare presentation!
I thought this picture of Anna exemplified the joy she was having with her grandparents. And yes, she actually will acknowledge all of her grandparents as her "grandmother" or "grandfather." It's pretty cute even though I don't know why she started referring to them like that!
We went to the Rainforest Adventures Discovery Zoo. They loved seeing the variety of animals!
And also feeding them!
The pool was also a big hit with our kids. Kate pretty much stood along the side of the pool the whole time!
Anna is like a little fish! She would swim all day if she had it her way. She's currently taking swim lessons so that she will eventually be able to swim without her floats.
Our plans changed when this little girl got very sick. She had a good attitude even though we were lacking in sleep.
We decided to try to do something low key and go on a picnic. We even saw a black bear as we were driving around the mountain!
Here's our family group shot. Oh, I'm surprised I made it this far in the trip without telling you about Curtis' goatee! Curtis made a deal with our RUF at Purdue students and said that if we got a certain number of students to go to Summer Conference (last post), he would grow facial hair. If they would have gotten a specified higher number, he would have let the students choose how he would do his facial hair. We may have gotten the higher number except that Summer Conference filled up too fast and so that option was taken away. Anyway, it was nice for a different look for a few weeks!
We spent a lot of time at the townhouse while Kate recovered. Anna had lots of special grandparent time at the pool and game room. We were hoping to go to the Gatlinburg Aquarium and we were excited that Kate eventually was well enough to go! We didn't take many pictures as we looked at all the neat sea creatures, but here's a few:
We really loved spending our last week with my parents!
Our family stood in this viewing nook to see the penguins!
In fact, I took this picture in there!
There was a Pearl Harbor exhibit that my mom and I had decided to skip, but I'm glad we didn't because it ended up being quite entertaining to Anna and Kate! I loved the way these cut-outs turned out with our girls!
So stinkin' cute!
Anna stood in another viewing nook with clown fish! I thought this picture turned out pretty cool!
The Aquarium was definitely a favorite part. The week came to an end and then it was time to head back to Indiana.
I gave Anna and Kate a chocolate shaped bear lollipop to remember our bear sighting on the way back. Kate made quite the mess with it!
Although we had a so much fun with friends and family at the beach, in beautiful Savannah, and in the mountains of Gatlinburg, it is always nice to come back home to our own bed!
