In late May, we headed to Florida to see my parents! I had been looking forward to this since the last time I had visited my hometown was when I was pregnant with Drew. I am pretty sure it was my longest stretch between visits - 2.5 years!! Though the quarantine has been a time where our family has grown closer to each other, it was a breath of fresh air to be able to see more than just the 5 of us!
We had picnics on the drive down and back, which I think we will continue doing on all our family trips (if weather permits). It was nice to stretch out and spend some time outside!
Drew got to meet his Uncle Benny for the first time!
The girls LOVED spending time with him! He would read books with them and add lots of laughter to our days. When he didn't come over, the girls truly missed him!
Grandad also read books to them as part of the bedtime routine. :)
Since our annual RUF Summer Conference (SuCo) was cancelled, we made sure to go to Vilano beach in St. Augustine! Kate absolutely loves it!
Drew's hair is starting to curl with the humidity. He is starting to look like a little surfer boy!
Once he warmed up to the beach, he enjoyed making sand castles with Grandad.
We had to make a stop at my favorite park - the Spring Park! (I won't even tell you how many times I went...I am trying to snap the perfect photo!) At this time, Indiana hadn't allowed playing on playgrounds so this was a special treat after ~7-8 months without being on a playground (when you add the winter and the COVID months in the mix)!
Drew enjoyed this swing with his daddy.
Grandma savored the moments!
Some other special events happened while we were there, including the chance to see my 91 year old Grandpa! We social distanced and he met Drew for the first time.
My grandfather also turned 90!
We had a drive-by parade to wish him a happy birthday.
It was short, but I am grateful that they allowed us to see him since they aren't allowing visitors at the senior living facility where he lives.
We were able to meet up with some other extended family that I haven't seen in a while also - Uncle David, his new wife Jocelyn (whom we had never met), my cousin Jennifer and her daughter Izzy (whom we had also never met), and my cousin Jason!

Most of our time was spent just hanging out with my family, but we didn't mind! This all took place during the first week of our visit! Stay tuned for week 2 in the next post. :)
